Firehair looks very grim about this.
Part of me wonders if the artist had originally drawn a really gory dead bear or something, with pools of blood everywhere, maybe pierced through by the dead tree, and he turned it in and the editors went “What the hell?! That is WAY too violent!” and they just removed the bear.
Because that tree doesn’t look cut down. That tree looks like it uprooted itself in a windstorm. And cutting down a dead tree doesn’t explain Firehair’s torn sleeve.
